Mobotix brings Open Standards to Security Surveillance
SIP Transformed the Telecommunications Industry now Mobotix brings SIP to IP Surveillance
The SIP protocol single handed changed the Telecom world introducing the concept of peer to peer calling setups which over night turned making a phone call into an IT application instead of being a service. In essence SIP was a paradigm shift. The new communications protocol SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) was designed to effectively setup Multimedia services dynamically between different end-points with the ability to negotiate multiple different codecs for audio, video and potentially any other media types but this protocol also contains a framework that allows SIP to be easily extended with special purpose with XML tags. That's exactly what Mobotix and others are doing in the security space.
In the world of telephony it took about 5 years for SIP to prevail and become the world's new telcommunications standard with an unprecedented level of interoperability.
The beauty of SIP is that it enables a certain coexistence of open standards with some proprietary extensions and immediately creates interoperability between telephony and security devices. Overnight IP cameras, IP Phone systems, door openers and intercoms speak the same language. We predict that very soon we will see extensions to SIP for access control and biometric devices just like we are already hearing about SIP being used in the medical field.
ABP has a network of over 1000 specialized resellers that are VoIP professionals and also in many cases can develop custom telephony solutions for their customers with IVRs, text to speech with deep integration of telephony into the core applications and ERP solutions of their customers. Now IP surveillance can be integrated into the same solutions.
At ABP we see a tremendous value in integrating IP Surveillance and Security with Telephony. To begin with our resellers harness the power of pre-recorded messages and IP zone paging and can create responses to many security threats. Any pre-programmable event the security system can detect now can be communicate via cell phone and paging systems and tell us where problems are so people can react to them quicker. Imagine the paging system saying there is a fire in the laundry room instead of everyone just hearing a fire bell, getting in panic and having to wait for more information.
Hotel Camera systems can tell people not to move furniture. Call 911 if a gun shot is detected on premises. Cameras can detect stains on carpets under doors as potential water problems. Building maintenance or owners can get a warning call to a cell phone if a buildings temperature is low and pipes could freeze. Now tie in door openers and bio metrics, license plate recognition. Yes even face recognition is a reality now. Really the sky is the limit and the professional systems integrator is the key channel to delivering these solutions to the small and medium size businesses.
Please stay tuned for more on the convergence of IP telephony and IP Surveillance.
